The port of Buenos Aires, often referred to as Puerto Madero, holds a significant place in Argentina's history. Established in the 16th century, it was initially a small natural harbor. But due to the booming trade and the city's rapid growth, it was expanded in the 19th century to accommodate larger vessels. It not only served as a crucial trading point but also acted as a gateway for millions of immigrants, mainly from Europe, shaping the cultural fabric of Argentina.
In the early 20th century, a new port, known as Puerto Nuevo, was built to the north to cater to the increasing maritime traffic. The old port, Puerto Madero, was subsequently abandoned and fell into decay. It wasn't until the 1990s that a major urban redevelopment project transformed it into a thriving district brimming with high-end residences, offices, and restaurants. Today, it stands as a symbol of the city's resilience and adaptability, and remains one of Buenos Aires' most visited landmarks.
Today we have a full day of exploring the beauty of Buenos Aires. In the morning, we'll take a bus tour of downtown Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city that reveals its immigrant heritage at every turn. We will see the Plaza de Mayo, the Casa Rosada (Presidential Palace), the colonial Cabildo and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Then we will continue along Avenida de Mayo and 9 de Julio Avenue with its eight streets adorned with lawns, fountains and statues and, of course, to the Obelisk, the undisputed symbol and center of the city. From here we will continue to San Telmo, the oldest district of the city, with its markets, attractive night atmosphere and "tanguerias", restaurants with live tango. We'll finish our city centre tour in the modern Puerto Madero on the banks of the Rio de la Plata and in the residential neighbourhoods of Palermo and La Recoleta. Followed by lunch at a local restaurant (included in cruise price).
In the afternoon, we will take a tour of the famous Barrio de la Boca. We'll see Lezama Park, Casa Amarilla and then meet the Boca Juniors club, who will introduce us to the biggest local passion - football. From the stadium, we will continue along Museum Street with its world-famous colourful facades and house fronts. Its winding route is due to the fact that a creek originally flowed here and emptied into the Riachuelo. Free time follows, then a tour of the historic Conventillo and a chance to have a coffee at the Proa Foundation, a center dedicated to contemporary Argentine, Latin American and international art with the best views of La Boca. Back in the city centre, we'll pass through two important points: at the corner of Sin between Suarez and Necochea streets, we'll admire the many cafés and piringundines - bars or cabarets where some place the origin of the tango - and at Usina del Arte, a cultural centre where it's possible to admire the murals (murals) in the streets around. After free time for sightseeing, we'll stop at a traditional pizzeria, where we'll sample the traditional icon of this neighborhood that gave its name not only to the neighborhood but to the entire gastronomy of the porteños - the city's inhabitants. On the way back to the city we will visit other places of interest and return to the hotel.
Please note: the afternoon tour is a walking tour and is not suitable for people with severe walking problems.

The port of Rio de Janeiro, located on the southeastern coast of Brazil, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The city's natural harbour was discovered by Portuguese explorers on January 1, 1502, mistaking the bay for a river mouth, thus naming it Rio de Janeiro, meaning 'River of January'. The port quickly became a crucial strategic point for the Portuguese colonial empire, serving as a major hub for the transatlantic slave trade.
In the 19th century, the port underwent significant transformations. The Porto Maravilha project, aimed at revitalizing the port area, was implemented in 2010, in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. Today, the port of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most important seaports in Brazil, handling a wide variety of cargo such as iron ore, oil, coffee, and manufactured goods.

In the 19th century, due to its strategic location, Ilhabela became a target for pirates who sought to loot the valuable goods passing through the port. This led to the construction of several forts around the port for protection. Over time, the port evolved and expanded to accommodate larger vessels and increased trade. Today, it is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural landscapes and rich maritime history.
