History

Port Klang, formerly known as Port Swettenham, is the largest port in Malaysia. It was established in 1893 to serve the tin mining industry of the Klang Valley, during the British colonial era. The port was named after Sir Frank Athelstane Swettenham, the first Resident-General of the Federated Malay States.

In 1972, the port's name was changed to Port Klang in line with the national language policy of Malaysia. Despite facing various challenges like labor disputes and congestion, Port Klang managed to grow in size and importance. Today, it serves as a major economic hub and is a vital part of Malaysia's international trade.
