Explora Journeys, the luxury lifestyle brand of MSC Group, announced the successful launch of Troncon, the forward lower section of the shipEXPLORA IV, the fourth of six luxury ships to be launched in 2027. The ship's dismantled bow will now travel from the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo to the Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa, where construction and finishing work will continue.

The achievement of this significant milestone, according to Explora Journeys' press release, underscores the expertise and dedication of the Fincantieri team, whose craftsmanship has been essential to ensuring that EXPLORA IV meets the highest standards of performance, innovation and luxury. The ship will be part of Explora Journeys' growing fleet, which is purposefully designed tooffer transformative, immersive experiences that connect guests to the ocean and the world around them.
All ships in Explora Journeys' luxury fleet embody the best of "Made in Italy" craftsmanship and are at the cutting edge of nautical design and innovation. Four of the upcoming ships - EXPLORA III to VI - will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), underscoring the brand's commitment to sustainable luxury at sea.
The six Explora Journeys, to be built by Fincantieri by the end of 2028, will feature innovative design and be equipped with the latest technology. MSC Group is investing more than €3.5 billion in them. This investment has an economic impact of more than €15 billion for Italy, with significant downstream effects and the creation of thousands of jobs. The construction of each ship will require more than seven million working hours and provide employment for an average of 2,500 people for two to three years.
EXPLORA I put to sea on August 1, 2023, marking the debut of Explora Journeys' luxury fleet. The second ship, EXPLORA II, was delivered September 12, 2024. The EXPLORA III and EXPLORA IV will enter service in 2026, respectively. 2027, with both ships to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). EXPLORA V and EXPLORA VI will join the fleet in 2027 and 2028, continuing the brand's ambitious growth and commitment to sustainable innovation.
