MSC Cruises today announced the expansion of the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, its private island in the Bahamas. The island will gain new facilities to enhance the guest experience and an extended pier that will allow two ships to arrive simultaneously. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2027.

Expanding your private paradise a few kilometres from Miami

MSC's private island Ocean Cay was opened at the end of 2019, just 100 km from Miami, and has quickly become a popular destination for guests on Caribbean itineraries. In line with the company's long-standing commitment to protecting the marine environment, the cruise line has transformed a former industrial sand mining site into a unique private island nature reserve with crystal blue waters and pristine white sandy beaches.

With over three kilometres of pristine coastline spread across eight separate beaches, Ocean Cay is designed to provide guests with the utmost in comfort. The island offers a wide range of facilities and experiences, including dedicated areas for relaxation or swimming, seven bars, Seakers Food Court for casual dining and food trucks, along with a range of fun water activities thoughtfully placed throughout the island. The island also offers a wide range of excursions with something for everyone, from snorkelling and water sports to climbing the iconic lighthouse and observing local wildlife.

Guests visiting the island from the end of 2027 can look forward to a range of new facilities and experiences, including new restaurants and bars, an adults-only beach, fully equipped family lagoons and more private relaxation cabins for hire.

New experiences at Ocean Cay will include:

New pier for two boats and a second private island

Construction work has now begun on extending the pier so that it can accommodate two ships at once. Vessels anchor directly at Ocean Cay, meaning guests can easily disembark. Completion of the pier extension is also scheduled for the end of 2027.

Work is also continuing on the development of MSC Cruises' second private island, adjacent to Ocean Cay. This as-yet-unnamed island, known internally as Little Cay, will remain true to the ethos of Ocean Cay, offering guests an experience that connects them with nature, pristine beaches and the beauty of the ocean, as well as luxurious facilities and water attractions.
