MSC Cruises, the world's third-largest cruise company, on Monday announced the location and date of the christening of its newest flagship, MSC World America. The gala event will take place on April 9, 2025 at MSC Cruises America's new Miami terminal.
The ceremony refers to the stunning investments that MSC Group has made in the "Cruise Capital of the World" and throughout North America over the past years. That's because after the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle at MSC Cruises' new Miami terminal, this new ultra-modern luxury ship will set sail towards Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise company's private island and one of its largest American investments.
Here, the programme for the first ceremony cruise includes an overnight stay, during which the ceremony guests will attend an evening lighthouse show and beach party. On the afternoon of the second day, the new ship will head out to sea where they will be able to experience a long list of unique and exciting activities and amenities on board the ship.
The remarkable MSC World America will be the first MSC Cruises ship in the U.S. market to be powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), currently the most environmentally friendly marine fuel. MSC World America is the second of the groundbreaking World Class ships and is specifically designed with North American guests in mind, with unique restaurants, bars and experiences that blend European design with American comfort. She will measure 333.3 metres in length, 47 metres in width and be 68 metres high. She will offer 2,614 staterooms to her 6,762 guests. After her naming in 2025, she will grace the skyline of Miami, which will become her homeport.
Rubén A. Rodríguez, President, MSC Cruises USA, said: “There is no better place to welcome MSC World America than the cruise capital of the world. We look forward to seeing her sail out of our state-of-the-art cruise terminal built in partnership with Miami-Dade County and PortMiami. As we build upon our offering in the North American market and help attract more international guests to the Caribbean, we are excited to bring our newest and most remarkable ship yet to Miami. We eagerly await April 2025, when we can welcome guests onboard to experience the world of choice that our new flagship has to offer.”
The launch of MSC World America at the new PortMiami terminal, along with MSC Cruises' upcoming $100 million U.S. headquarters in downtown Miami, underscores its unwavering commitment to the region, according to MSC Cruises. The PortMiami terminal is set to revolutionise the cruise experience for up to 36,000 guests a day.
