Wednesday, early morning and we take the bus to Vienna. This time we organized a one-day excursion to the historical part of the city with one of the primary schools in our area. The excursion included a walk around the main monuments, and we also decided to enliven the day for the pupils by visiting one of the oldest attractions of its kind in the world, the Prater.
As the students had finished their admissions to secondary and vocational schools, some of them were still learning their results along the way and sharing their enthusiasm with their classmates and their teachers. Once we got to the centre of Vienna, we could start slowly introducing the students to the city before we arrived at the exit point at the Natural History Museum.
This impressive museum, located on Marie-Theresie Square together with the Art History Museum, offers a fascinating overview of the history of the Earth under one roof. We couldn't miss it, and so our first steps led here. After hours of exploring the various displays, from prehistoric fossils and giant dinosaurs to the world's largest and oldest meteorite collection.
Afterwards, we took a short walk past the Vienna Opera House to Korutanska Street, at the end of which stands St. Stephen's Cathedral with its 136 m high tower, a great landmark in the city. Here we had an hour of free time to relax, have a snack, but most importantly shop in the adjacent shops. The tour continued across Graben Street to the Hofburg Castle complex via the Sissi Museum. Time was running out and to catch up with everything, we made our way through the meticulously maintained park, which was scented with flowering trees and beautiful rose planting. It is not for nothing that they say the best time to visit Vienna is in spring. S With the combination of such beautiful weather as we had, we can only confirm this with a clear conscience. The last important point of our tour was the town hall on the town hall square. By the time we got to the town hall, a stage had already been built on the square and was ready for the upcoming concerts and cultural events.
Slightly tired, but full of anticipation of what awaited us in Prater, we headed back to the Natural History Museum where our bus took us to this large amusement park. For the students, it was literally a reward for a half day of sightseeing with interpretation, and the sparkles and joy in their eyes upon arriving amongst the attractions spoke volumes. There was no point in detaining the pupils any longer and with words: "enjoy", there was no sign of them. They all returned to the bus full of impressions and new experiences.
During the return journey, there was still enough energy for the whole bus to watch the World Cup hockey match online, where the Czech Republic played Denmark. Our team's win added to the good mood, and our journey home passed quickly.
Thank you for the nice cooperation with the primary school and the teaching staff who also participated in the excursion and we wish the pupils a successful new stage in their lives.
We will look forward to the next meeting.
