The Port of Miami, often referred to as the "Cruise Capital of the World," has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. The Port was officially opened in 1915, with dredging operations, completed in 1916, making it a deepwater port. It was initially used for shipping, particularly for the transportation of fruits and vegetables.

It wasn't until 1968 that the Port of Miami began to transform into the cruise capital we know today. The Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to build a modern passenger terminal, signifying a shift in the port's function. Today, the Port of Miami serves millions of passengers each year, making it one of the busiest cruise ports in the world.

Isla de Roatan Honduras
16. February, 9:00 - 18:00

Roatán is the largest island of the Honduran archipelago Islas de la Bahía and lies less than 50 km off the coast of Honduras. The island is hidden behind the huge mountains of mainland Honduras, rising from the sea to a height of 2,400 metres. It is this location that makes Roatán an island very vulnerable to natural disasters. About 15% of Roatán is built-up, the rest is tropical forest. The coastline is sandy, with beautiful beaches with turquoise blue water. For most of the year there is a pleasant tropical climate with an oceanic influence and an average temperature of 27-30°C with fresh sea breezes. There are extensive marine areas with coral reefs that are part of the Mesoamerican Coral Reef, the second largest coral reef in the world. There is much to look forward to.

The Isla de Roatan in Honduras has a rich history, dating back to the time of the Mayan civilization. The island was an important trading center for the Mayans, who left behind pottery and other artifacts that have been discovered by archaeologists. In the 16th century, it was frequently visited by European explorers, including Christopher Columbus, who claimed it for Spain.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the port of Roatan became a haven for pirates and privateers, who used the island as a base for their raids on Spanish galleons. The island was also a major center for the African slave trade. After the decline of piracy, the island became a British colony, before eventually becoming part of Honduras. Today, the port of Roatan is a popular destination for cruise ships and tourists who are attracted by its beautiful beaches and clear waters.

Costa Maya Mexico
17. February, 8:00 - 17:00

Mexico definitely has something to offer anyone looking for the perfect holiday. As such, we always associate our favourite drink with Mexico, which is tequila. However, the current face of Mexico is also interesting, contrasting the big rich cities with the many shanty towns that are on the outskirts of such cities. In the past, however, Mexico was inhabited by very modern civilizations, not only the Aztecs, but of course the Mayans as well. The most interesting areas as such then are certainly the ancient civilization called Teotihuacan, the Costa Maya, the archaeological zone of Chichen Itzá, which stands out above all for its very unique pyramids, or also Taxco, an area that is one of the most interesting Mexican attractions.

The Port of Costa Maya, located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, is one of the most important cruise ship destinations in the Caribbean. It was conceived and developed by the Mexican government in the late 1990s as a way to bring tourism to the less-developed southern regions of the state. The port officially opened in 2001 and quickly became a popular stop for cruise lines.

However, in 2007, the Port of Costa Maya was severely damaged by Hurricane Dean, a category 5 storm. The port was forced to close for an extensive period for repair and reconstruction. Despite this setback, it was successfully rebuilt and reopened a year later, in 2008. Since its reopening, the port has continued to thrive and develop, attracting a large number of tourists with its pristine beaches, Mayan ruins, and vibrant local culture.

Cozumel Mexico
18. February, 9:00 - 19:00

Cozumel means "Island of Swallows". At first glance, you will be struck by the specific nature of its natural beauty. The Mesoamerican Coral Reef is definitely worth seeing, which is especially popular with tourists for swimming and diving. Those interested in swimming can also take a ferry to the mainland to one of the world's most famous beaches, Playa Del Carmen. For history buffs, we recommend visiting the nearby Mayan ruins. For this, you can take advantage of MSC's optional excursion or taxi service. As a souvenir, we recommend buying authentic Mexican tequila.

The history of the port of Cozumel in Mexico dates back to the Pre-Columbian era. It was originally a sacred Mayan pilgrimage site, dedicated to the goddess Ix Chel. The Mayans believed that the waters surrounding the island had healing properties. The island was a major trade route and hub for maritime commerce in the Mayan civilization.

Over time, the port of Cozumel gained international recognition. It became a strategic location during the Spanish conquest, with the infamous Conquistador Hernán Cortés using it as a base for expeditions. During the 17th century, it was frequented by pirates. Today, it stands as one of the busiest cruise ship ports in the world, attracting tourists with its rich history and natural beauty.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve Bahamas
20. February, 8:00 - 20:00

In the Bahamian capital of Nassau, Bahamian Prime Minister and MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago signed a 100-year contract in 2015 that allows the cruise company to manage an island called Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. This island offers a totally authentic vacation experience with the best beaches in the world, right in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. The island has bicycle and other transportation rentals, dedicated beaches such as a family beach with a restaurant, playground and other amenities for children. A charming lagoon in the middle of the island or a large festive gazebo for parties and weddings are just icing on the cake of this wonderful place. For the more discerning clients, the island has enclosed bungalows with massages and an exclusive spa.

The history of port Ocean Cay in MSC Marine Reserve is a tale of transformation. Once a sand extraction site, Ocean Cay has been transformed into a marine reserve and private island destination for MSC Cruises. The project, which began in 2015, involved not only cleaning the industrial wasteland but also undertaking a massive marine restoration effort.

Through the efforts of MSC, this 95-acre island in the Bahamas now boasts a flourishing ecosystem. The port of Ocean Cay is unique as it is one of the first ports in the world to be built purely for cruise ship passengers. The transformation of Ocean Cay is an excellent example of how human intervention can positively impact the environment, converting a former industrial site into a thriving marine reserve.
