MSC Poesia: Completion of a major renovation in Malta and a cruise to Alaska

Cruise ship MSC Poesia is returning to service in full strength after nearly two months of downtime at the Maltese shipyard Palumbo. The vessel, built in 2008, has undergone an extensive series of upgrades that are not just aesthetic but represent a fundamental step in modernizing the entire Musica class. This renovation is a key preparation for a groundbreaking event in MSC Cruises' history – this year's official entry into the cruise market in Alaska.

Luxury concept 'ship within a ship' debuting on board

Just like the MSC Magnifica, which underwent a transformation at the end of this year, the most notable innovation is the integration of the prestigious product MSC Yacht Club. This exclusive concept offers guests a private world within the large ship. On MSC Poesia, we now find 62 brand new suites, which come with their own sun deck, dedicated restaurant, and stylish lounge accessible only to club members.

In addition to luxurious accommodation, the ship has also received a culinary refresh. Food lovers can now visit the popular American steakhouse Butcher’s Cut or enjoy specialties at the newly arranged Kaito Sushi Bar. The casino and fitness center have also been transformed, receiving state-of-the-art equipment, and standard cabins and the ship's technical facilities have been rejuvenated.

Journey across the ocean and Panama Canal

MSC Poesia welcomed its first guests after the renovation on April 6, 2026, when it began a seventeen-day transatlantic cruise from the Italian port of Civitavecchia to PortMiami. During this journey, the ship visited ports in Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal, before crossing the ocean towards the Bahamas and Saint Martin.

However, its journey does not end there. At the end of April, the ship will embark on its very first cruise through the Panama Canal. This eighteen-day route from Miami to Seattle will take passengers through Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico to the California coast. Premier season in Alaska

Starting in early May, Seattle will become the new home port of the ship, from where MSC Poesia will operate weekly cruises to Alaska and Canada. Passengers can look forward to visiting iconic places such as Ketchikan, Juneau, and Icy Strait Point, as well as breathtaking scenic cruises near the Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier.

After a winter season spent in Caribbean waters, MSC Poesia will return to northern waters, as the company has already confirmed its deployment in Alaska for the summer season of 2027. This series of investments and new routes clearly confirms MSC Cruises' ambition to strengthen its position in the North American market.
