One-day Vienna trip with the Slavičín - Vlára Primary School

This year we went again with the Slavičín - Vlára Primary School on a day trip to Vienna. Participation was abundant, the mood was great and the alarm clock rang very early. Already at dawn we boarded the bus and set off towards the Austrian capital. Although rain accompanied us on the way, but on arrival in the city center the weather calmed down. Vienna welcomed us with only cloudy skies and pleasant spring air.

We started at Maria Theresa Square between two famous museums - the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museum. From there, we walked past the Vienna Opera House and continued along the famous pedestrian Kärntner Straße to the St. Stephen's Cathedral. Here we gave the pupils some free time to enjoy the city in their own way. Some went to explore the interior of the cathedral, others went for souvenirs, ice cream, or the fast classics, McDonald's and Starbucks, which were a hit with the pupils.

After the meeting, we continued through Graben Street, where we stopped for a while at the Moor Column and reminded ourselves not only of the history of the city itself, but also how closely Vienna was once connected to the Czech lands. During the Habsburg Monarchy, we shared not only rulers, but also culture, language and everyday life with Austria. That is why the streets of Vienna look so familiar.

We only passed by the Sisi Museum, but we still had a brief talk about her role in history. Just at that moment, a light spring rain started up again and accompanied us to the Town Hall Square. Before we reached it, we had the opportunity to walk through the beautifully blossoming Volksgarten Park, where it was ablaze with all its colours. The most striking thing was of course the roses, of which there were a plethora.

At the end of the park, we arrived in front of Vienna Town Hall, where we shared a few interesting facts. From the town hall we then headed back to the natural history museum where the bus was waiting for us. And since a visit to Vienna wouldn't be complete without a stop at Schönbrunn, we moved on to this Baroque gem. The castle gardens were beautiful - and there was a classical music concert in the works. Technicians were running around, stages were being built, sound systems were being rehearsed, and the sun was shining.

And then came the expected highlight of the day - Prater. Vienna's legendary amusement park came alive with our arrival. Everyone found exactly what was closest to their heart. Some took to the roller coasters, others preferred the classic carousels or ventured into the corners of the haunted castles. But some of the pupils were up for a challenge - with a slight nervousness they queued up for the wildest attractions and pushed their own boundaries of courage. Others preferred to enjoy a leisurely ride on a Ferris wheel overlooking the whole of Vienna. In short, Prater offered something for everyone - depending on what they wanted to experience and how daring they were.

In the evening we returned home tired but excited. Full of impressions, stories and beautiful memories.

We thank the Slavičín - Vlára Primary School for their trust, all the pupils for the great atmosphere and the teachers for their support and cooperation.
