The Port of Miami, often referred to as the "Cruise Capital of the World," has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. The Port was officially opened in 1915, with dredging operations, completed in 1916, making it a deepwater port. It was initially used for shipping, particularly for the transportation of fruits and vegetables.

It wasn't until 1968 that the Port of Miami began to transform into the cruise capital we know today. The Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to build a modern passenger terminal, signifying a shift in the port's function. Today, the Port of Miami serves millions of passengers each year, making it one of the busiest cruise ports in the world.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve Bahamas
6. November, 8:00 - 17:00

MSC Ocean Cay is a private island owned by MSC Cruises in the Bahamas, offering the perfect combination of tropical nature and luxurious relaxation. Visitors are enchanted by white sandy beaches with turquoise seas, the iconic Ocean Cay Lighthouse, tranquil lagoons ideal for swimming and snorkelling, and a nature reserve that highlights the island's ecological restoration, creating a unique spot for Caribbean-style relaxation. The island offers bicycle and other vehicle rentals, specialised beaches such as a family beach with a restaurant, children's playground and other facilities for kids. For more discerning guests, the island features private bungalows with massages and exclusive spa and wellness services.

The history of port Ocean Cay in MSC Marine Reserve is a tale of transformation. Once a sand extraction site, Ocean Cay has been transformed into a marine reserve and private island destination for MSC Cruises. The project, which began in 2015, involved not only cleaning the industrial wasteland but also undertaking a massive marine restoration effort.

Through the efforts of MSC, this 95-acre island in the Bahamas now boasts a flourishing ecosystem. The port of Ocean Cay is unique as it is one of the first ports in the world to be built purely for cruise ship passengers. The transformation of Ocean Cay is an excellent example of how human intervention can positively impact the environment, converting a former industrial site into a thriving marine reserve.

6. - 7. day at sea

8. day

Philipsburg Netherlands
9. November, 8:00 - 18:00

Philipsburg is the capital of the Dutch island of Saint Martin, which is divided into a Dutch part (St Maarten) and a French part (Saint Martin). The town offers captivating art galleries, historic forts, casinos, a zoo, and last but not least, Great Bay Beach with its promenade. At sea, the 12 Metre Challenge yacht race takes place, where guests can join as crew members on one of five boats that competed in the America's Cup in 1987.

The port of Philipsburg in St. Maarten has a rich history dating back to the early 18th century. It is named after John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy, who first established a settlement there in 1763. Originally, the port was a center for salt mining, and later emerged as a bustling trading hub for the Dutch West India Company.

In the 19th century, the port declined due to the abolition of slavery and the salt industry's downturn. However, Philipsburg regained its significance in the 20th century with the advent of tourism. Today, it stands as a vital stopover for cruise ships, with its port being one of the busiest in the Eastern Caribbean. Its duty-free shops, beautiful beaches, and historic sites attract millions of tourists each year.

9. day

Basseterre Saint Kitts and Nevis
10. November, 8:00 - 18:00

Right after disembarking, you can walk to the historic centre with the iconic roundabout The Circus featuring the Berkeley Memorial clock tower and the romantic Independence Square, surrounded by Georgian architecture from colonial times. Among the most popular organised excursions is a visit to the imposing Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering breathtaking views of the entire island, or a romantic ride on the historic St. Kitts Scenic Railway – a narrow-gauge "sugar" railway passing plantations and rainforest. For those who prefer relaxation, transfers are available to beautiful beaches such as Cockleshell Beach with snorkelling.

Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis, is one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean, with a history deeply tied to colonialism and trade. Established by the French in 1627, its name, meaning "low land" in French, reflects its location in a flat, sheltered area along the coast. Over the years, Basseterre became a strategic hub in the struggle between European powers, particularly the French and British, for control of the Caribbean. By 1727, the British had taken full control of Saint Kitts, and Basseterre developed as the island's main port and administrative center, central to the flourishing sugar trade, which relied heavily on enslaved African labor.

Despite its importance, the city faced numerous challenges, including devastating fires, hurricanes, and earthquakes throughout its history. However, Basseterre rebuilt and thrived, blending its colonial heritage with the vibrant culture of the local population. Today, the city is known for landmarks like Independence Square, formerly a slave market, and the Circus, inspired by London’s Piccadilly Circus. Basseterre stands as a lively cultural and economic hub, offering a mix of historical sites, colorful markets, and a gateway to the natural beauty of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

10. day

Charlotte Amalie United States
11. November, 7:00 - 15:00

In Charlotte Amalie, you can explore the narrow cobblestone streets with pastel-coloured houses on foot, visit the historic 17th-century Blackbeard's Castle with panoramic views of the bay, or climb the famous 99 Steps built from brick ballast of Danish ships. The island of St. Thomas offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean – the unforgettable Magens Bay, regularly ranked among the world's 10 most beautiful beaches with crystal-clear water and white sand, or Coki Beach, ideal for snorkelling with colourful fish and corals.

Charlotte Amalie began in 1671 when the Danish West India Company chose this natural deep-water harbor for a new trading post. In 1691 it was renamed in honor of Queen Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel, becoming the capital of the Danish West Indies. The town’s steep, narrow streets and stone warehouses grew around a booming sugar-cane economy, with merchants and planters building grand homes that still overlook the harbor today.

In 1917, the United States purchased the islands, creating the U.S. Virgin Islands and turning Charlotte Amalie into an important naval and coaling station during both World Wars. As sugar plantations faded, the town reinvented itself with a flourishing tourism industry, drawing visitors to landmarks like Fort Christian, vibrant Danish colonial architecture, and the busy Charlotte Amalie Harbor, where history and Caribbean culture blend seamlessly.

11. day

12. November, 11:00 - 18:00

The port itself features its own entertainment complex with pools, water slides, a beach club and a shopping centre with local products, so you can enjoy a Caribbean day without even leaving the premises. For adrenaline lovers, popular excursions include ziplining over the rainforest, buggy or ATV rides along mountain trails, rafting on the Damajagua River with 27 waterfalls, or canoeing through mangrove forests. The Dominican Republic is a paradise for beach lovers \u2013 you can choose a transfer to the famous Playa Dorada with golden sand and turquoise sea.

My name is Veronika and I have a great passion for travelling, which has already taken me to different parts of the world. I am interested in studying languages and psychology, which helps me to understand human behaviour better. In addition, I love nature, gardening, animals and sports. Discovering new cultures and gaining life experiences constantly inspires and enriches me.

Delegate on Cruise
