Drew Barrymore, the well-known actress and television host, will become mistress of MSC Cruises' new flagship, MSC World America. MSC Cruises, the world's third-largest cruise company, announced the news on March 5, 2025. Ship christening ceremony will take place on March 9. The ship will be unveiled on April 9 at the new MSC terminal in Miami, which is the largest of its kind in the world.
Drew Barrymore, who is also the creator of MSC Cruises' Let's Holiday advertising campaign, will open the ceremony with the traditional ribbon-cutting and breaking a bottle of champagne against the bow of the ship. Alongside her will be actor Orlando Bloom, who appears with her in the ad campaign. "When MSC Cruises asked me to be the godmother of MSC World America, I immediately agreed," Barrymore said. "I love travel, it gives me energy, and to be a part of something that brings people amazing adventures is just great. There's something magical about cruises - they allow you to explore the world in fun and unexpected ways."
Suzanne Salas, Executive Vice President, MSC Cruises USA, commented: "Drew is the perfect choice for the role of godmother of MSC World America. It perfectly embodies our brand with its style, elegance and passion for the comfort and adventure that travel brings."
During the ceremony in Miami, the MSC World America will bring together global media representatives, travel advisors and other distinguished guests. The evening will also include a gala dinner, entertainment and the opportunity to explore the new features the ship has to offer. Following the ceremony, the ship will embark on a three-day special cruise to the private island of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas as part of the "Let's Holiday" advertising campaign.
During a stop on the island, Ocean Cay will host the grand opening of the new Center for Conservation. This center will serve scientists and students working on a program to restore coral reefs affected by climate change.
The MSC World America brings an innovative take on cruising that combines European style with American comfort. The ship will offer a number of new features, including seven themed zones for different types of travelers (we wrote more about this here). There are 19 restaurants on board, including the first Eataly at sea, and 18 bars and lounges. New features include All Stars Sports Bar and comedy club The Loft.
Families will appreciate The Harbour's outdoor space, which includes a water park, ropes course, cliffhanger swing over the water and other attractions. The ship also boasts a shopping and entertainment World Promenade with one of the longest dry slides at sea.
For guests looking for luxury, the exclusive MSC Yacht Club offers 24-hour butler service, private access and more.
