The port of Stavanger, Norway, has a rich and storied history that dates back to the middle ages. It was established as a harbor in the 8th century and grew steadily over the centuries due to the thriving herring fishery industry. By the 12th century, it had become an important center of commerce and sea travel, with trade routes extending to other parts of Scandinavia and beyond.
In the 20th century, the port of Stavanger underwent a dramatic transformation. The discovery of oil in the North Sea in the 1960s turned Stavanger into a hub for Norway's burgeoning offshore oil industry. The port was expanded and modernized to accommodate the needs of oil companies, forever changing its character. Today, it is one of the busiest ports in Norway, serving not only the oil industry but also passenger ships and cargo vessels.
Eidfjord is located in Hordaland. Eidfjord is the starting point for visiting Hardangervidda National Park and Vøringsfossen Waterfall. The cascading waterfall Vøringsfossen, 182 m high, can be found on the Bjoreio River in Hardangervidda National Park. It flows from the plateau into the deeply incised Måbødalen valley. It is one of the most famous waterfalls in Norway and the most visited natural attraction in the country. You can take an optional MSC trip to visit it.
Eidfjord, a beautiful town located in the heart of Hardanger, Norway, is known for its deep-rooted history. The earliest evidence of human settlement in Eidfjord dates back to the Stone Age, with the discovery of fishing implements and rock carvings near the port.
The development of the Eidfjord port can be traced back to the Viking Age. The strategically located harbor used to be a significant trading point during the Viking era. In the 19th century, the port witnessed a transformation with the industrial revolution, turning it into an important center for trade and tourism in Norway.
Norway's fifth largest city and the largest city in the Sørlandet region. The total registered population of the entire Kristiansand region is 137,572. Kristiansand is also the second largest port in Norway and even has its own international airport. As early as the 13th and 14th centuries, there was a busy harbour and fishing village at the mouth of the Otra River, where Kristiansand is today. King Kristian IV of Denmark visited the site in 1630 and 1635 and founded the town of Kristiansand on the opposite sandy bank of the Otra (Sanden) in 1641. It was founded in Renaissance style and as a trading centre to encourage the development of this strategically very important area. The king also granted it various trading privileges and exempted the town from paying taxes for 10 years. The city centre is called Kvadraturen after the original strictly rectangular street layout. During our city walk you can see Kvadraturen, Posebyen, Christiansholm Fortress, Domkirke Cathedral or enjoy local specialties such as Carassau - local bread, Akevitt - traditional potato brandy, buy Brunost which is a caramel cheese, originally made from goat's milk and if you like fish, smoked salmon served on dark bread with butter, Brun saus - a sauce with meat croquettes, fish dumplings and sausage or Gravetlaks - salmon marinated in salt, sugar, chives and cognac.
The port of Kristiansand in Norway has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. It was founded by King Christian IV in 1641, with the intention of making it a strong military and commercial hub, hence the name Kristiansand, meaning 'Christian's city'. The port quickly became a key center for trade and shipping, especially in timber and iron ore.
Over the centuries, the port has undergone significant developments. During the 19th century, it was a major port of emigration, with thousands of Norwegians leaving for America. In the 20th century, the port expanded further with the construction of new docks and warehouses. Today, Kristiansand is one of the busiest ports in Norway, serving both commercial and passenger ships. It plays a vital role in Norway's economy and is a popular tourist destination.
The history of the Norwegian capital dates back to 1048, when it was founded. This was specifically by King Harald III. The patron saint of the city is Saint Hallvard, who was the son of a chief from the settlement of Lier. In modern history, Oslo has become one of the fastest growing cities in the world. If you're going to retrace the steps of Oslo's most important landmarks, then your primary destination will be the Royal Palace, which is also the official living place of the royal family. A far older structure, however, will be Akerhus Castle and Fortress. This is a rather large complex housing up to 65 buildings, including the Museum of the Home Resistance during World War II. Oslo's other attractions include the Town Hall, which dates back to 1936 and, incidentally, is where the Nobel Peace Prizes are regularly awarded. The Norwegian Parliament building, known as the Stortinget, dates back to 1866.
The Port of Oslo has a long-standing history tracing back to the middle ages. It is believed that the port was founded around 1000 AD. During the 1300s, the port became an important hub for trade in Norway due to its strategic location. It served as a major gateway for the import and export of goods, playing a pivotal role in the city's growth and prosperity.
In the 1800s, the Port of Oslo underwent significant developments. The first steamship, the Constitutionen, arrived in 1827, marking a new era in the port’s history. The construction of the Oslo-Østbanen railway in 1854 further enhanced the port’s connectivity. The modernization of the port continued in the 20th century with the construction of new facilities and expansion of the harbor area, solidifying its position as a key maritime hub in Norway.
A visit to this city is truly impressive. We visit the little mermaid, take a few photos with the castle guards, whose hats are known to the whole world. Did you know they weigh up to 8 kg? More from our delegate. The walk through the city centre itself is very charming and relaxing. MSC Cruises transfer.
The history of the Port of Copenhagen, Denmark's largest harbour, dates back to the Middle Ages when it played a crucial role in the city's growth and development. The port was originally established by Bishop Absalon in the 12th century, who built a fortress on the island of Slotsholmen, creating a natural harbour which would become the heart of Copenhagen.
Through the centuries, the Port of Copenhagen grew and modernised. During the industrial revolution in the 19th century, the port expanded, with new docks and warehouses constructed to accommodate increasing trade. The port was a significant hub for Denmark's international trade and naval power. In the 20th century, the port faced challenges as industry moved away from the city centre, but it has since transformed into a bustling area with residential, business and recreational facilities.

During the return transfer we have prepared for you two hot snacks for the journey, coffee, tea, cappuccino and chocolate and chat about the ships and new destinations.
