2. day

Pisa Italy
11. March, 9:00 - 12:00

Pisa is known worldwide for its Leaning Tower (Torre Pendente) and other Romanesque buildings in the local cathedral complex in Piazza dei Miracoli ("Square of Miracles"). Pisa was founded at the mouth of the Arno River, probably by the Greeks. According to Latin writers, it was founded in the 13th century BC, 550 years before the foundation of Rome. Temporarily belonging to the Etruscans, an Etruscan necropolis was documented in 1991 during archaeological excavations in the area of the Garibaldi Arena. In the time of ancient Rome, Pisa was one of the centres of power over the Mediterranean. In the Middle Ages, the virtually independent Republic of Pisa was an important trading port and one of Italy's maritime republics.

2. day

Livorno (Pisa) Italy
11. March, 13:00 - 19:00

Upon arrival at the port, check-in and check-in to the ship follows. In the afternoon a familiarization tour of the boat, accommodation and safety drill before departure. Definitely don't miss the first departure from the port. Also, don't miss the first served dinner to enjoy the great Italian cuisine. We will visit the ship's theatre and finish the evening with a drink at the bar.

The port of Livorno, located in the region of Tuscany, Italy, has a rich history dating back to the Roman times when it was known as Portus Pisanus. In the late 16th century, under the Medici family's rule, the port was extensively developed and became an important hub for trade and commerce. The Medici Port, as it came to be known, attracted merchants from all over Europe.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Livorno became a "free port", attracting a diverse population of people, including Greeks, Jews, Armenians and others who contributed to its cultural and economic growth. The port was heavily bombed during World War II, causing significant damage. However, it was rebuilt and today, it continues to be one of the major seaports in Italy, handling a wide range of cargo including oil, coal, and container traffic.

3. day

Civitavecchia (Roma) Italy
12. March, 7:00 - 19:00

In the early morning arrival in Civitavecchia. Civitavecchia is an Italian port town in the province of Roma in the central Italian region of Lazio. It is located on the Tyrrhenian Sea, 80 km west-northwest of Rome. Translated literally as "Old Town", Civitavecchia is the prototype of a classical Italian settlement with roots in ancient times, which has undergone a rich history of development and change over more than a thousand years of existence, traces of which are still visible today (it has been shown that the site was inhabited in Etruscan times). Civitavecchia was a major Roman and Papal port for a thousand years and today you can still visit over a hundred churches.

Civitavecchia, located on the western coast of Italy along the Tyrrhenian Sea, is a historic port city that has served as a vital gateway to Rome for centuries. Its name, meaning “ancient town” in Italian, reflects its origins, which date back to Etruscan times. However, it was during the Roman Empire that Civitavecchia gained prominence, when Emperor Trajan ordered the construction of the port in the early 2nd century CE to relieve congestion from Rome's main port at Ostia. The harbor, known as Centumcellae in ancient times, became an important hub for trade and naval operations. Remnants of this period, such as the Trajan's Arch and sections of the original Roman harbor, still exist today, showcasing the city’s deep historical roots.

Throughout the Middle Ages, Civitavecchia's strategic importance made it a contested site among various powers, including the Papal States, which controlled the city for much of its later history. It became heavily fortified, with landmarks such as the Forte Michelangelo, a formidable 16th-century fortress commissioned by Pope Julius II and partially designed by Michelangelo himself. In modern times, Civitavecchia remains a key port, serving as the main maritime link between Rome and the Mediterranean. It is also a popular departure point for cruises and ferries, connecting Italy to various islands and neighboring countries. With its rich history and ongoing role as a bustling port city, Civitavecchia continues to blend its ancient heritage with its modern significance.

4. day at sea

5. day

Valencia Spain
14. March, 7:00 - 21:00

In the morning after breakfast you can go with our delegate to explore this very interesting city. You will admire the interesting architecture and urban design of the dry riverbed, walk through the sleepy streets of Valencia to the Cathedral, where the Holy Grail - the chalice from which Jesus drank at the Last Supper - is located. We'll also do some shopping, sample some great ice cream or visit the local market. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the local oceanographic museum, one of the largest in Europe.

We recommend MSC Cruises transfer from the port to the city, price approx. 12€.

The Port of Valencia, located in Spain, is one of the largest and most important seaports in the Mediterranean Sea basin. Its history dates back to 1483 when Ferdinand the Catholic granted a privilege that authorized the city of Valencia to build a wooden bridge on the beach, marking the birth of the port.

Over the centuries, the port underwent various transformations, becoming a key infrastructure for the city. In the 19th century, modernization works were carried out, which included the construction of the canal and the first dock. Today, the Port of Valencia is ranked as the fifth busiest seaport in Europe, handling a significant amount of freight and millions of passengers annually.

6. day

Barcelona Spain
15. March, 8:00 - 18:00

A city where history meets modern life, culture mixes with delicious food, and every street hides a story waiting to be told. Don't miss the chance to experience Barcelona at its best - from the Gothic Quarters to world-famous monuments like the Sagrada Familia, from sunny beaches to gourmet experiences that will spoil your palate. MSC Cruises offers you more than just a cruise; it offers you the key to unforgettable experiences and memories you'll remember for a lifetime.

We recommend the MSC Cruises transfer from the port to the city, in this destination it is really necessary, the price is about 12€.

Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, boasts a history that dates back over two millennia. Founded as a Roman colony called Barcino in the 1st century BCE, its early development is still visible in remnants such as Roman walls and structures in the Gothic Quarter. During the Middle Ages, Barcelona flourished as a major maritime power within the Crown of Aragon, becoming a vital center for trade and culture. The city's medieval landmarks, like the Barcelona Cathedral, reflect this period of growth and significance. However, political upheavals in later centuries, including the decline of Catalonia's independence, temporarily slowed its development.

The 19th century marked Barcelona’s cultural and architectural renaissance. The Catalan Renaissance and the Modernisme movement brought artists and architects like Antoni Gaudí, whose works, including Sagrada Família and Casa Batlló, transformed the city into a showcase of creativity. The 1992 Olympics further revitalized Barcelona, modernizing its infrastructure and boosting its global profile. Today, Barcelona is a thriving cultural, economic, and tourist hub, blending its rich history with modern urban life. Its iconic landmarks, Mediterranean coastline, and vibrant Catalan identity make it one of the world’s most beloved cities.

7. day

Marseille France
16. March, 8:00 - 18:00

In Marseille, from the old harbour, we head to the local cathedral, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the island of Iff, which you can optionally visit. The island where the hero of Alexandre Dumas' novel, Count of Monte Cristo, was imprisoned. However, the hike to the Cathedral of Our Lady with our delegate is an unforgettable experience. Marseille is in the palm of your hand. You will see the locations where the movie TAXI was filmed, the old port with its fortress and other attractions.

We recommend the MSC Cruises transfer from the port to the city, it is really necessary in this destination, price approx. 17€.

The port of Marseille, also known as the Old Port, is located in the heart of Marseille, France. Its history dates back to antiquity, around 600 BC, when it was founded by Greek mariners from Phocaea. Over the centuries, the port has played a significant role in the economic and cultural development of the region, serving as a major hub for trade and transportation.

In the Middle Ages, the port became an important center for the Mediterranean trade. Despite periods of decline, it continued to flourish, especially during the Renaissance when it was modernized and fortified. In the 19th century, the port underwent a massive expansion, solidifying its status as one of the world's leading maritime ports. Today, it remains a vital part of Marseille's identity and economy.

8. day

Genoa Italy
17. March, 9:00 - 19:00

Upon arrival at the port, we will head to the centre of Genoa and explore this amazing ancient city, especially famous during the Genoese Republic, which is also linked to the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

The Port of Genoa has a rich history that traces back to the Roman times, when it was established as a trade hub. However, its status of one of Europe's leading seaports was achieved in the Middle Ages, under the Genoese Republic. This bustling port city was a major player in the maritime trade routes, particularly with the East.

In the 19th century, the Port of Genoa underwent significant expansion under the Kingdom of Italy. Its geographical position and natural harbor made it a strategic point for commercial and military activities. Today, it continues to be a crucial port, serving as a major gateway for goods and passengers, and is considered one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean Sea.

9. day

Livorno (Pisa) Italy
18. March, 9:00

In the morning after breakfast we will disembark from the ship and can look forward to exploring more beautiful places during today. The tour is not over yet.

The port of Livorno, located in the region of Tuscany, Italy, has a rich history dating back to the Roman times when it was known as Portus Pisanus. In the late 16th century, under the Medici family's rule, the port was extensively developed and became an important hub for trade and commerce. The port was heavily bombed during World War II, causing significant damage. However, it was rebuilt and today, it continues to be one of the major seaports in Italy, handling a wide range of cargo including oil, coal, and container traffic.

9. day

Lucca Italy
18. March, 11:00 - 14:00

Lucca is another pearl of the Tuscan region, next to Pisa. The city is relatively small, covering about 185 square kilometres and has about 86,000 inhabitants. Lucca is surrounded by perfectly preserved city walls. The historic city centre can only be reached through one of the medieval gates. A walk along these walls is particularly interesting, where you can enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire city between the alleys. After the tour, depart for the Czech Republic. During the return transfer we have two hot snacks for the journey, coffee, tea, cappuccino and chocolate and a chat about the ships and new destinations.

Jana Kristeková

I came to Riviera Tour from Bratislava and MSC Cruises, where I worked for 4 seasons as a crew member in the excursion department. I fell in love with life at sea there and had a lot of experiences that I can't stop talking about. On cruises with me, you'll also find out a lot of behind-the-scenes secrets. Aside from cruises, I'm a content creator. So you can reminisce about some of our experiences together through texts or videos on the Riviera Tour News pages.
