Port of Hamburg, also known as Hamburg Harbor, is located in Hamburg, Germany. It was established in the 12th century and initially served as a small trading post for ships from the British Isles and Scandinavia. Over the centuries, the port has grown into one of the busiest and most important in Europe.
In the 19th century, Hamburg Harbor underwent significant expansion with the construction of new docks and storage facilities. The port became a hub for international trade, particularly in the importation of coffee, tea, and spices. Despite suffering significant damage during World War II, the Port of Hamburg recovered and continued to play a crucial role in Germany's economy. Today, it remains one of the world's largest and busiest ports.
Invergordon, a small port town in the north-east of Scotland, is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside and the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. The area's biggest attraction is undoubtedly a trip to the legendary Loch Ness, famous the world over for the legend of the mysterious Nessie monster. On the shores of the loch, you can visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle, which offers not only a glimpse of history but also spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. The Scottish Highlands themselves will enchant you with their wild nature, steep mountains, deep valleys and tranquil lochs.
Invergordon itself is famous for its colourful murals that tell the stories of the town and local culture. Nearby whisky distilleries offer the chance to learn about the traditional production of this iconic drink. Invergordon thus combines a quiet town with the opportunity to discover the fascinating natural scenery and cultural heritage of Scotland.
Delegate takes part in an optional MSC Cruises excursion in this port.
The port of Invergordon is located in the northeastern part of Scotland, within the Cromarty Firth. The history of this port is deeply intertwined with the maritime and military history of the United Kingdom. During the World War I, Invergordon served as a significant naval base for the British fleet. The natural deep waters of the Cromarty Firth made it an ideal location for anchoring the fleet.
In the 20th century, Invergordon experienced an industrial boom due to the discovery of oil in the North Sea. The port became a hub for the construction of oil platforms, significantly contributing to the local economy. Invergordon is also well-known for the Invergordon Mutiny of 1931, a significant event in British Naval history. Today, the port continues to serve an important role in the maritime industry, especially as a popular docking point for cruise ships.
Reykjavík is the capital and, in fact, the only major city in Iceland. The surrounding area is characterised by peninsulas, bays, straits and islets. It is also characterised by beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and inland glaciers. The unforested small island of Viðey, which offers several hiking trails, lies to the north of the town. It takes about 10 minutes by boat. You can go on an optional tour of the area with our delegate and, as there is plenty of time, in the evening you can also see Alþingishúsið - the Icelandic Parliament building, whose construction was completed in 1881, or Dómkirkja - the Lutheran cathedral built in 1848 in neoclassical style.
Delegate will take part in an optional MSC Cruises excursion in this city.
The history of Reykjavik's port, also known as the Old Harbour, dates back to the early 20th century when it was built between 1913 and 1917, just a few years after Reykjavik became a town. Its construction was a significant milestone for the town, marking its development into a modern trade and fishing hub. It enabled Iceland to operate international trade routes and establish its fishing industry, which remains a major part of the country's economy today.
In the 1980s, the port underwent a major transformation with the construction of Sundahöfn, a larger and more modern harbor located in the northeastern part of the city. Despite this, the Old Harbour retained its charm and continued to play a crucial role in the city's life. Today, it's a vibrant area packed with restaurants, museums, and tourist attractions, and it's also the main departure point for whale watching and puffin tours.
Isafjordur is a fishing town located on the northwest coast of Iceland. It lies on a small flat sandbar in Skutulsfjörður Fjord, which meets the large Isafjarðardjúp Fjord at the end. The name translates as "ice fjord". The town has some of the oldest houses in Iceland built in the 18th century. One of them houses the Sea Museum. In the centre of the town is the church of Ísafjarðarkirkja ("Church on the Ice Fjord"). Its construction is concrete. Its architect was Hróbjartur .
The history of the port of Isafjordur in Iceland dates back to the 16th century when it emerged as a trading post for foreign merchants. Its deep and wide fjord provided a perfect harbor for ships, and its rich fishing grounds made it an important center for the fish trade. The town gained official trading rights in 1786, affirming its status as a trading hub.
During the 19th century, the port of Isafjordur flourished with the growth of the fishing industry in Iceland. The town became one of the largest fishing ports in the country and was a key player in the national economy. Despite facing challenges such as isolation and harsh weather conditions, the port maintained its importance through the 20th century. Today, it serves as a crucial base for commercial fishing, as well as a popular destination for cruise ships.
Akureyri is not quite an accurate description of the city. The full name is Akureyrarkaupstaður. It is also called the "capital of North Iceland" because it is the fourth largest city in terms of population in Iceland. It has an attractive location - it lies on the shores of the Eyjafjörður Fjord below the snow-capped peaks of the surrounding mountains, with the highest peak being Súlur. The Glerá River, which flows through the town, rises from a glacier on the Tröllaskagi Peninsula. The first record of settlement in this part of Iceland dates back to 890, when the Norwegian Viking Helgi Magri (Helgi the Skinny) is said to have sailed here and established a farm near present-day Akureyri. In the Middle Ages, there were rather commercial buildings, warehouses and a few houses. Over time, the fishing industry in particular grew and today the town is bustling and cosmopolitan. Akureyri's tallest building and thus its landmark is the Akureyrarkirkja church, designed by the state architect Guðjón Samúelsson in 1940. The city also has a great respect for its native people, in whose honour.
The history of the Icelandic port of Akureyri dates back to the 9th century, when the first Nordic settlers arrived on the island. However, it was not until the 16th century that Akureyri began to develop as a commercial centre, thanks to its excellent natural harbour and proximity to fertile fishing grounds.
In the 19th century, the port of Akureyri played a key role in the Danish monopoly trade, which further strengthened its position as an important trading port. Today it is the second largest port in Iceland and serves as an important centre for the country's fishing industry, cruise ships and freight transport. It continues to be an important part of Iceland's economy and infrastructure.
Goðafoss Waterfall is one of the most famous water cascades in Iceland. Its name translates to "waterfall of the gods". It is not said to be the largest, tallest or oldest waterfall in the country, but its crystal clear water and the legends associated with it make it probably one of the most famous. On the way to it, you'll also enjoy a beautiful view of the fjord and the wild Icelandic countryside.
The first mention of the town dates back to 1046. In 1486 it was made a royal town, and in the same year Orkney became part of Scotland (Norway until 1486), as did Shetland. The name of the town derives from the original Norwegian name Kirkjuvagr, which was gradually commuted to Kirkvoe to Kirkwall. The town has an important harbour, from which ferries regularly sail to Lerwick and Aberdeen. In the centre of Kirkwall is St Magnus Cathedral, built between 1108 and 1117, and next to it are the ruins of the Earl Bishop's Palace. One of the best-preserved townhouses, built in the 16th century, is now a museum of various historical items, dating back to prehistoric times. Next is the Wireless Museum, dedicated to the history of sound recording. In addition to these buildings, there are also many historic houses from the 17th-18th centuries. There was also a castle in Kirkwall which was destroyed in the 17th century. There is also a prehistoric house (actually a cellar) on the western edge of Kirkwall, it is entered by a passageway and the room is all the way underground, similar to other houses that were built in prehistoric times in Orkney and Shetland (Jarlshof). This underground room was attached to an above-ground building, long since demolished. Take an optional excursion with our delegate. In the evening after the theatre performance, we will prepare our luggage for disembarkation, pay our bills and let ourselves drift on the waves to the last port of call of our cruise.
The port of Kirkwall, located in the Orkney Islands of the United Kingdom, has a long and rich history. It was originally established by the Vikings in the 11th century as a trading hub due to its strategic location between Scandinavia and mainland Scotland. The name Kirkwall itself is derived from the Norse 'Kirkjuvagr', meaning 'Church Bay', which refers to the town's ancient church, St Olaf's Kirk.
In the centuries following its establishment, Kirkwall continued to grow as a significant seaport. It played a crucial role in the Hanseatic League, an economic alliance of trading cities and their guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe. During both World Wars, the port served as an important naval base due to its strategic location. In the modern era, the port has become a popular stop for cruise ships and remains a key component of the local economy.
In the morning breakfast and after disembarkation departure from the port to the Czech Republic. The price of return transportation includes two hot snacks for the trip, coffee, tea, cappuccino and chocolate. Arrival in the Czech Republic according to the current traffic situation Prague 22:00.
Port of Hamburg, also known as Hamburg Harbor, is located in Hamburg, Germany. Over the centuries, the port has grown into one of the busiest and most important in Europe.
